Privacy notice

Last updated: 9 August 2026

This explains what personal data Tapins collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than to be impressive.

Who we are

Tapins is a trading name of Target Marketing Agency Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 13792930. Registered office: 31 Dover Road, Sheffield, England, S11 8RH.

We are the data controller for the data described here. You can reach us at alex@tapins.co.uk.

If we contacted you first

You may be reading this because we sent you a report about your own business without you asking for one. Here is exactly where that came from.

What we hold: your business name, business phone number, business website address, trade and the town you operate in. We do not seek out personal information about you as an individual.

Where we got itPublicly listed business information, principally Google's business listings, together with your own public website.
Why we're allowed toLegitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Our interest is identifying businesses that may benefit from our service. We have weighed that against your interests: the data is business contact information already published by you, the volume is small, and we make it easy to opt out.
Marketing by emailWhere you are a corporate subscriber (a limited company or LLP), PECR permits business-to-business marketing email without prior consent. Every message tells you how to stop it.
How long we keep itUntil you ask us to stop, or 12 months after our last contact with you, whichever comes first.

Our research calls

Before contacting a business we may ring its published number a small number of times during working hours to record whether the call is answered. This is mystery shopping. We do not record the calls, we do not listen in, and we hang up as soon as anyone answers. We log only the time of the call and whether it connected. We may also submit a genuine enquiry through a public contact form using our own real name and contact details, never a false identity.

If you would rather we didn't, say so and we will stop immediately and permanently.

If you're a customer

When you take up the service we handle information about the people who contact your business: names, phone numbers, and what they said about the work they want. We process that on your instructions, as your processor, solely to answer, qualify and book those enquiries. We do not use it for our own marketing and we do not sell it. Terms covering this form part of your agreement with us.

Who we share it with

Only suppliers who help us run the service, under contract, and only as far as needed:

Some of these process data outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent safeguards. We will name the current suppliers on request.

Your rights

You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or stop using it, including objecting to legitimate-interests processing and opting out of marketing. Email alex@tapins.co.uk and we will act within one month, usually the same week.

If we get it wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.

Changes

If this notice changes materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects you, tell you directly.
